Online Masters Degree in Teaching

A master's degree is an academic degree usually awarded for completion of a postgraduate course of one to three years in duration. Most people seeking a master's degree in teaching are those who hold a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning and wish to earn teaching certification. Successful completion of a master's degree in teaching entitles a candidate to teaching certification in many states and education jurisdictions.

Job Opportunities After Getting A Master's Degree In Teaching
Getting a teaching master's degree is not a bad idea. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, excellent job opportunities are expected as a large number of teachers retire over the next 10 years, particularly at the secondary school level; opportunities will vary somewhat by geographic area and subject taught.

A master's degree in teaching is the surest way to licensure. All 50 States and the District of Columbia require public school teachers to be licensed. Teachers may be licensed to teach the early childhood grades (usually preschool through grade 3); the elementary grades (grades 1 through 6 or 8); the middle grades (grades 5 through 8); a secondary-education subject area (usually grades 7 through 12); or a special subject, such as reading or music (usually grades kindergarten through 12).

Getting Teaching Accreditation
The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education currently accredits more than 550 teacher education programs across the United States, many of them master's programs. Most programs require students to perform a student-teaching internship.
